Decrypting Codes

On Friday we learned about creating and breaking codes using matrices. This is a good example of how adding and subtracting matrices can be used. Be sure to get notes from someone if you were not in class. You should know how this process works for future assessments.

Matrices

Today we began looking at exactly how matrices are created. We talked about the size of the matrix, and how to express a particular element of a given matrix. You should complete most of this worksheet before Wednesday.

Fast Food Election

Today we completed one more practice run dealing with our three algorithms of election theory. Be sure you study hard!

Today I gave out a handout dealing with our three algorithms for Election Theory. You should have completed this in class, or be finishing it for homework.

Election Theory

Today we talked about 3 different algorithms dealing with Election Theory. Remember that each of these methods require the use of a preference schedule! The three algortithms discussed were: the Borda method, Runoff method, and Sequential Runoff method. Be sure that you have really clear notes on each of these processes. It is essential that you know how to follow them, but do not worry too much about how they work. You should also know the difference between plurality and majority winners. Tomorrow we will do an activity in class dealing with these different methods.

Paper Evaluation

Today we read the research paper from last night's homework dealing with Algorithms of Logic Puzzles. As you saw there were several topics incorporated into this paper that relate to everything we have covered so far this year. Hopefully you have gone through the paper and identified this items by now. I also handed out a question sheet to go along with the paper. If you were not in class today, you should pick up a copy tomorrow. All of the material from this week will be collected on Monday!

Logic Puzzles

Today we worked on logical puzzles involving Football and Jack-o-lanterns. Be sure you complete these and keep up with ALL papers as you will use them in your upcoming project!

For tonight you must print out the Research Paper from the following website:

Algorithms and Bubble Sorting

Today we finished up our discussion about the town of Iceberg and their Ice Cream shops. You should have some understanding of an algorithm by now, and should be able to complete the following definitions/tasks on any upcoming assessments:
- Define an Algorithm
-Brute Force Algorithm
-Greedy Algorithm
-Bubble Sorting

We discussed the Algorithm to follow for bubble sorting towards the end of class. You need to show ALL steps of a bubble sort.

Geometric Homework and Midterm

Today we spent most of the class period reviewing your homework from this weekend. Be sure that you have corrected the equation from worksheet 11-4!!!! If you were not in class you need to get the equation from someone.

You may want to review your equations for homework!!!

The midterm is also this week and will consist of information from ALL units covered so far. That means it will consist of: Fair Division, Truth Tables, Propositions, Sets, Sums and Sequences!!! Review your tests and your notes to prepare.

Geometric Sequences and Series

Today we looked at Geometric Sequences and Series. Be sure that you include these equations on your chart because it will be very helpful to have all of these equations in one location! Be sure that you have BOTH worksheets completed for Monday. You will also need your SAT folder next week to turn in Monday or Tuesday.

Test Corrections

For those of you in class today you completed test corrections. If you were not in class you must see me tomorrow to do these. Please review the material that you had trouble with because this information WILL be on the midterm!!!

After corrections we looked at the worksheet (11-2) on Arithmetic Series. Everyone seemed to understand this concept well so we will move on to Geometric sequences and series tomorrow.

Fibonacci Numbers

Leonardo Fibonacci was a cool dude. Today we discussed one of his "discoveries" (although he was really just the first to publish this finding). Fibonacci used a hypothetical situation involving rabbits to create the "Fibonacci Sequence." (1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, .....) Be sure that you know how this sequence works and how to find the first few terms of the sequence.

Fibonacci numbers can be found everywhere, especially throughout nature. We looked at several examples in class today. In groups you created the famous Fibonacci Spiral, which we will put up on the wall soon. Take a look at the website tonight (the link is on the right), and look specifically at some of the objects with spirals. You will need to know this information for upcoming tests/quizzes!

Arithmetic Series

Today we extended our knowledge from sequences to series. Series is just another word for the total sum of a sequence. Be sure that you have the equations for these topics on your chart that was given out last week.
